10% discount - 19th to 26th June 2010Now only £427 per personStanding proud at the impressive height of 3482m, the summit of Mulhacen is the highest peak in the Sierra Nevada mountains and also the highest point on the Iberian peninsula. Mulhacen, along with the other 3000m mountains in the range is covered with snow for 6 months of the year but in late spring, summer and autumn it is a very attainable peak for regular walkers. Our carefully planned itinerary will aim to prepare you for the 2-day ascent of Mulhacen in the latter part of your week with us. A program of walks in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada's, the beautiful Alpujarras, including excursions to over 2000m will give you the best possible chance of summiting the big one. The ascent is non technical but does involve 2 reasonably strenuous days with approximately 1000m of ascent each day and 2000m of descent on the 2nd day. There is more than enough time to accomplish this and the journey will be enjoyed at a fairly leisurely pace. The ascent will include a night spent at the wonderfully situated Refugio Poqueira at a height of 2500m. This welcoming hostelry is an Alpine style mountain hut which provides very comfortable dormitory accommodation and showers. Dinner and breakfast here are included and it is possible to buy snacks. The Refugio is also licensed, the Vino Caliente (hot wine) is particularly recommended. General Information:A week of walking in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains culminating in a 2 day ascent of the highest peak on the Iberian peninsula. The ascent of Mulhacen 3482m is dependent on weather and conditions, lingering spring snow and early snows in the autumn can render the ascent too difficult without specialist equipment and skills. Of course, mountains of this stature are subject to the vagaries of the weather and we reserve the right to change itineraries in the interests of safety. |
